Mardin Savur Municipal Facility Generator Project

At a municipal facility, a power cut means public services stop. For this facility in the Savur district of Mardin, the aim was to keep the lighting, IT systems and other critical loads supplied without delay whenever the grid goes down. Once the loads and the likelihood of them running at the same time were calculated, the requirement came to a 165 kVA unit. A Baudouin engine was chosen, housed in a soundproofed Berksan enclosure.

After final checks in the factory yard, the canopy was covered with protective film and blue corner protectors were fitted along its edges. The unit went into a curtainside truck by forklift, and once it was tied down it set off for Mardin. In Savur, the unit's spot was picked by looking at where the exhaust would point, how much maintenance clearance the canopy needed and how the cables would reach the switchboard; when the cabling was finished, the unit was tied into the facility's distribution board through an automatic transfer switch (ATS) panel.

Before commissioning, the engine's oil, coolant and battery levels were checked. The generator was then run first with no load and then under load, with voltage and frequency monitored throughout. Finally, the utility supply was deliberately cut, and the ATS duly moved the load onto the generator and returned it to the mains once power came back. With this 165 kVA Berksan generator in service since 2026, the municipal facility in Savur can keep its doors open even during power outages.
